What’s next for Largs Thistle?

Who's moving on after 2022-23? What's happening pre-season, and how can you support your club?
11 June 2023

What's next for Largs Thistle?

What’s next for Largs Thistle now that season 2022-23 is over? Here’s a quick update as we prepare for the new season ahead.

Connor McGoldrick, Dario Nimmo, Jamie McGowan and Jamie Walker will all leave Barrfields. Each played a big role in our sixth-place finish last season. We thank them for their hard work and wish them well for the future.

Connor returns to Syracuse in America to start married life with Adela. Jamie McGowan is signing for his local team Johnstone Burgh. Jamie Walker and Dario are as of yet undecided on their next moves.

And as we say goodbye to four players, we welcome goalkeeper Joe Wilton to Barrfields from Kilbirnie Ladeside. We look forward to seeing Joe in action. We also welcome midfielder Liam Lapsley back to Largs. Liam played with our under-20s during 2021-22 and starred at Greenock last season. We will keep you informed of all signing activity as and when it happens. No doubt Arnie will have a few gems up his sleeve.

What a season that was

Our sixth-place finish in the West of Scotland Premier Division in 2022-23 was one of our best league positions ever. And you, our fans, played a big part in this.

Your team are enjoying a well-deserved break before training returns on 19 June. We are busily arranging friendly matches starting in early July. The schedule will be listed as soon as we have concluded this.

This coming league season begins on 29 July. We will release the fixtures when they are issued. Joining the league this season are Gartcairn, St Cadoc’s and Benburb. We play the first two teams for the first time in competitive games. We will also play in the South Challenge Cup, West of Scotland Cup and Scottish Junior Cup.

How can you support Largs Thistle?

And if you fancy keeping yourself fit, join us at the Derek Scott Memorial Golf trophy on Friday 21 July. Learn more on our fundraising page.

We cannot wait to welcome you back to Barrfields. Until then, have a fantastic summer and stay safe… and keep looking out for regular news updates.
